ah the innocence of youth, how endearing!!!
seriously tho, its going to need a few hundred young Jammy's bitch 's for the future, i well remember myself at his age, "show me the money!!!" naw the least bit interested in learning anything, and aye, best freens wae hughie, every day for a year and a half, throwing up, runnin up the trap to spew while cooking the breakfast, days when i was so bad i coona get oot my bunk, if you saw the prog. aboot the lobster boats on the grand banks and the guy that had to get winched off as he was badly dehydrated with being sick for days? well i came pretty close to that a few times, yet it never occured to me to jack it in and get an apprenticeship ashore, it took a stand up screaming match on tayinloan quay for me to jack it for a year afor i went back aboard and straight into the wheelhoose when the old man had his first heart attack.
so don't be sore on the boy for throwing up, theres few that don't, the good thing is its naw put him off, teach him to mend and he'll be mair use than aboot 75% of the adults if things are the same as my day, make him a fisherman, naw a labourer which a lot of crewmen are. easiest job in the world being a crewman, hardest being a skipper, even harder being a good one, i think? never was much cope myself so can only guess? the romantic notion of having your own boat, set against the stark reality of trying to pay for it, wid drive ye tae drink, and thats another thing to keep him well clear of!!!!

i've got to say i thought the green horn would have lost his guts before he did we were dodging in to a small swell and not having been in a boat or used to the smell of a boat i think the boy done well towing south for 3 hours he never once complained or shyed away even after being told to go down into the cabin to get some sleep he sat it out in the wheel house to only jump out the door to give a wrench or two and come back in with yet another question lol.
once we were turned around and heading back before the motion the breakfast went on and he made short work of one bacon roll as soon as we started to haul his oilys went on and he was in about what was going on on deck,
for a young boy he has an interest that is rarely seen in young men nowadays of wanting to go out and work hard

It makes a change nowadays to hear of a youngster getting a "good press",usually all you hear about them is negative,so it proves that there are still a lot of good kids out there.Best of luck young man.
Some learn by reading, some ask questions, others observe...but there's always one who has to pee on an electric fence for himself.

thought he'd have the makings of a good un, as long as he remembers you are never too old to ask questions, never think he knows it all and is willing to learn and take in what he's told, then he'll do alright, when he starts asking for copies of your readings you'll know its time to get shot of him!!!!!
