LEADING Danish trawldoor manufacturer Thyboron Trawldoors is the latest company to confirm attendance at the ‘Fishing, Aquaculture and Seafood Expo – from Sea to Plate’ being staged in Glasgow in March.
The attendance of Thyboron is likely to spark considerable interest amongst fishing skippers looking to maximise the performance of their fishing gear, according to the event’s organisers.
Amongst the equipment on display will be Thyboron’s new Type 16 bottom door that has been specially developed for fishing over hard ground, and which has delivered good results in the North Sea, including for some Scottish vessels working for squid. Also being shown will be the semi-pelagic type 14 vf doors that are now being used by several boats in mainland Scotland and Shetland. Recently, Thyboron acquired Icelandic trawldoor company Poly Ice and a range of their models will also be featured.
Other highlights include a display of the type 15 vf pelagic doors that are proving highly effective for fishing just above the seabed. Allan Ronn Pederson of Thyboron says: “This system is rapidly spreading in popularity due to the net being able to fish on the bottom with the doors off the seabed, which is seen as being environmentally friendly and also beneficial to fuel economy.
“The Glasgow fishing show is always an excellent event for us to attend and provides an unrivalled opportunity to meet with large numbers of Scottish and UK fishing skippers. We are looking forward tremendously to meeting visitors to our stand and we are always interested in hearidg skippers’ feedback on the performance of their fishing gear.”
This will be the 25th anniversary of the UK fishing expo, which formerly focused primarily on the catching sector, but has now been extended to include processing, seafood and aquaculture in recognition of the increasing integration and synergies between the various fish industry sectors.
This new format has received widespread support, including from Scottish Fisheries Minister Richard Lochhead, who said:   “I am delighted that an expanded Fishing Expo will be held in Glasgow in 2012, with the show’s focus encompassing not just the catching sector but processors and aquaculture as well.
“This ‘sea to plate’ approach reflects the Scottish Government’s commitment to supporting all aspects of our seafood industry. We are determined to help the industry add value to what is a fantastic and iconic Scottish product, all the way along the supply chain.”
“The Fishing, Aquaculture and Seafood Show – from Sea to Plate” will take place from March 22 to 24 at the SECC, Glasgow, from 10am to 5pm Thursday and Friday, and 10am to 4pm Saturday.
