I thought I'd post this as I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere else.
Douglas "The Horse" McAlpine passed away on sunday at 4am after a long and tough battle with cancer.
He bore his illness with his usual resilience and fought like a lion to the end.
The last of the Clyde men with herring in his heart, he never cared much for any other mode of fishing.
His family's pair, Catherine Anne and Maryeared were probably the most photographed pair of ringers anywhere, being almost the last of their kind.
A talented , generous and good natured guy, fun to be with both at sea and ashore.
He will be sadly missed.
His funeral is in Tarbert at 1300 on Wednesday.
