steam trawler rejoice sn8

hi i am looking for information on the steam trawler rejoice, i beleive her fishing number was sn 8 at the time of her loss.
my great grandfather was second hand in her when she was lost in 1928.
i believe that she was one of irvins, and was lost somewhere north of the tyne but have been told she may have been off aberdeen.
as far as i know all hands were saved but dont know where they were landed as this wold give some indication as to where she foundered.

any info would be welcome.

Rejoice ML 337 ready for launching from Walter Reekie's Yard at St. Monans during 1915. She was the last Steam Drifter to be built in the East Fife Area. Although ML 337 can be seen clearly, the Registry was never completed as she was taken over immediately on completion for War Service.Whilst on War Service she was sold and became SN8 and was sunk off the Tyne during 1927.

cheers steve m8, thats awesome. didnt expect to get a photo of her.

i have since found out that she foundered on the 9/6/28, 14 miles SE of the tyne, on return from a fishing trip.
and that she was rigged initially as a herring drifter but was trawling at the time of her loss.

The wonders of using Google  :crazy2:

I've checked to see if the wreck is in Ron Young's "The Comprehensive Guide to the Shipwrecks of the North East Coast" but the boat isn't included so perhaps this is a sign that nothing of her is left?

was she ever renamed??

just looked in the UKHO wreck index and there's no mention of it in there, which usually means it was never traced/charted or was known under a different name when sunk

hi mark, she was the rejoice from being built, only her fishing number changed from ML 337 toSN 8

Just to confuse matters there was also a boat with SN8 called S.T. Cradock (Built: Hawthorns & Co Ltd, Leith 1918) which was attacked and bombed by German aircraft, 14 miles NNE of St. Abbs Head and subsequently foundered; crew of nine away in lifeboat - 8.11.1941

cant be the same rejoice, must have picked up the number after 1928.

Yes I know your dates were solid but thought it worth mentioning the fact that it appears both SN8's ended up on the bottom as losses - bit eerie?

i know he refused to sail once because the boat had a registration number that added up to thirteen.

Just had a look at the EU Trawler Register and there is an SN8 but its a boat with no name, registered in SKÄRSÅ  (Sweden)

soderhamn in sweden is the worlds other sn.
would be interesting to know how their sn 8's  have fared over the years
