North Shields is located in North East England on the banks of the River Tyne. North Shields is close to the mouth of the Tyne (Tynemouth) and is 13km (8 miles) East of Newcastle upon Tyne.
Fishing has taken place from North Shields since at least 1225 but unfortunately the NS Fleet is now on the decline. Mainly fishing for prawns, shellfish and salmon, the fleet ranges from traditional Northumbrian Cobles to the largest boat which is Kevin Dickinson's Sophie Louise II.

Access to the Fishquay and Fish Market is not permissible to the general public but anyone entering with the purpose of photography is generally tolerated by the on site Security Officers.

The area is excellent for photographing passing vessels on the Tyne, all with the exception of the Fishquay itself is private, but other areas are wide open. Parking is free for all areas apart from the Cliffords Fort Car Park (.

Plenty of Hotels, B&B's etc in the area as NS is only a few miles from the 'holiday location' of Whitley Bay.

5. Old Ice Factory (now disused)
6. Western Quay - free car parking
7. Tyne Street - you get an elevated view over the Tyne and Fishquay from here - free car parking.
8. Cliffords Fort Car Park - there is a charge for parking here - but great views out towards the Tyne Piers.
9. Union Quay - Fish and Chip Shops, both sit in and take out, Italian Restaurants, shops etc. - Free Car Parking.
10. New Dolphin Public House - if you are a little thirsty!
11. Prince of Wales (Old Wooden Doll) Public House
