Hello all
Hoping to find an image of FR506 Laurel Crown, lost with nine crew while sweeping for mines 22 June 1916.
Or a good image of similar, Fraserburgh built wooden drifter of the same vintage. (e.g. see list on http://www.naval-his...FishPortNos.htm)
We are including the names of those lost on a new memorial wall to be built next to the Kitchener Memorial (www.hmshampshire.org)
Wooden, 81grt, built 1912, Fraserburgh-reg FR506, hired 1914 as net drifter, Admiralty No.2050, Skipper John Coull RNR.
One of nine vessels sweeping area on 22 June in which Hampshire was lost (with Lord Kitchener on board) on 5 June 1916 - between 58.46N-59.22N and 03.18W-04.39W - passed Brough of Birsay and steering WSW. At 2000, detonated mine laid by U.75, foundered west of Orkney, going down stern first and breaking up; Skipper and eight ratings lost, no survivors.

Some people accuse me of thinking the world revolves around me, but it doesn't. It revolves around the Sun which shines out of my arse.
