Six crew members airlifted from burning fishing boat by helicopter

STV 9 July 2012 18:23 BST

Six men have been rescued after their fishing boat caught fire 60 miles off the coast of Shetland.
Coastguards were alerted to the emergency when they picked up signals from an emergency beacon at 4pm on Monday.

A search and rescue helicopter was scrambled, and half a dozen vessels in the vicinity responded to the coastguard’s request for assistance.

The six crew members were airlifted from the 22-metre vessel, the Banff-registered Denarius, and flown to Shetland.

They were then taken to the Gilbert Bain Hospital for a check-up after landing.
A coastguard spokesman described the six men as "walking wounded" and added that the vessel was believed to still be on fire.
