Has everyone heard about the latest dictat from brussels that requires all fish and shellfish to be weighed on certified scales before they can be sold, even if you have onboard scales and you are weighing at sea. they will still require you to weigh 10 percent of your shot.marine scotland has taken this dictat onboard with thier usual willingness to adhere to every rule that comes out of europe.this will be a nightmare for whitefish boats landing into peterhead, fishroom men who nhave taken a lot of time and care to pack and present fish in the best possible condition , will see the box.s being tipped . weighed then thrown back into box.s with little care for quality. as i hear sombody in peterhead is trying to start up a weighing company employing eastern europeans to do the labour. at £5=£8 a box. alex salmond the snp and marine scotland. the fishermans friends, bring on independence and greater european integration,

Takes me back a lot of years ( something like 40) to days when the boxes were filled and weighed ( guessed at ) by hand. The buyers knew that the weight was often higher than that given, so that there was no problem if the skipper of a boat gave a friend "a fry", or a lobster/couple of crabs. Another custom long gone . Nowadays it would come out of the profit, whereas in the past the buyers accepted it ,as they were getting a lot more than they were paying for, and it was a sort of discount to the skipper .

Nothing unusual about weighing fish at sea, been going on for years up here, done it for long enough and it never slowed me down any, if you know how to work the scales whats the problem !!! By overfilling boxes its you thats losing money !!!
