Fisherman rescued from capsized vessel Alert

The boat, Alert, was towed back to Peterhead and lifted out of the water A lone fisherman had to be rescued after his small mackerel boat capsized off the coast of Peterhead.

He was picked up by another fishing boat, Darcie Girl, and his vessel, Alert, was towed into the harbour by a lifeboat.

MRCC Aberdeen co-ordinated the rescue of the fisherman and arranged for the tow to Peterhead by Peterhead's RNLI all weather lifeboat.

The emergency call was made at about 2115 BST on Tuesday.

The Coastguard's Steve Smith said the fisherman had the right safety gear and was wearing a life jacket.

He added: "This fisherman did exactly the right thing by calling for assistance as soon as he got into difficulty.

"He was also carrying the right safety equipment and wearing a life jacket, all of which contributed to him being rescued unharmed."

Aye that's why I was asking if this was the boat in the piece - would have been out single handed so fits the bill.

Found this on the Net - Catamarans are less likely to capsize in the classic "beam-wise" manner but often have a tendency to pitchpole instead—where the leeward (downwind) bow sinks into the water and the boat 'trips' over forward, leading to a capsize.
