probably be thick fog when they do it as well
got me supicions like, EGNOS, the european gps system went live on 1st october, and most folk reckon it will be licenced (ie you have to pay for it)
maybe looking to see if they can wipe out the free gps in local areas to force us to pay for egnos??
be interesting to see how all the numpties that rely on their tom tom/in car sat nav cope when trying to drive from tynemouth to shields
or maybe its just a way of trying to fool the world into thinking whitely bay no longer exists

Daft question, maybe, but what's the purpose of these tests? Why would anyone want to jam the GPS system?

curious thought, that given the jamming trials, there's a muckle huge dredger digging holes in the river for the new tunnel that has a massive reliance on accurate numbers
Be funny to see it go a bit wonky cos of the trials
They did the same trial off scarborough last year, testing the efficiency of DGPS against eLoran/egnoss
why the feck they need to do it again beats me. Still reckon they are up to something that will ultimately end up costing money somewhere along the line

dont forget about the aircraft approaching newcastle.good job its not foggy
hadn't thought about that, the inbound flight path to Newcastle runs straight through the area they are 'testing' with a left turn over st mary's!

I see that Fishing News (18 December 2009 edition) has an article on the Trials - page 6 by David Linkie.
It was the THV Galatea that carried out the tests.
