THE gross value of all fish handled at Peterhead last year soared to a new record level of more than £164 million, according to figures issued today by Peterhead Port Authority.
The statistics show that £164,655,511 worth of fish was handled, compared with £148,124,230 for the 12 months of 2010. White fish value alone rose from £70.8million to £76.5million.

All other categories also rose in value – with shellfish rising from £10.4 million to £11.2 million; mackerel up from £53.8 million to £62.6 million; and herring and others from £12.9 to £14.1 million.

Overall fish tonnage at the port fell from 170,169 tonnes to 132,943 tonnes, although whitefish volume was only marginally down – from 45,234 to 44,269 tonnes. Direct white fish landings at the port fell from 38,396 to 37,431 tonnes, while consignments were unchanged at 6,838 tonnes.

Shellfish volume fell from 6,475 tonnes to 4,895 tonnes, mackerel from 67,090 tonnes to 56,516, while herring and others dropped from 51,370 tonnes to 27,263 tonnes.

I always see both sides of the argument, the one that's wrong and mine.....
