If any of you were like me and sucked into the fact that HFW could help the Fishing Industry & it's reliant Communities, then how gulable were we! His portrayal of discards has come back and bite the industry in the rear. Hugh's Fish Fight has a Face Book page which is sponsored & moderated by "WWF, Greenpeace, Fish to Fork" and many more,  all Green organisations who want to see practically an end to all fishing practices. Hugh has expolited the discard issue, something that has been going on for years and it has not been caused by the Fisherman, this has been a problem caused by the management tool called the CFP ! By the success of HFW mission to eradicate discards, he has now convinced the general public that many common white fish species are in danger.
Next month's 2nd series will however be watched by millions no doubt, but, I this time will not be taken in by the famous chef who is exploiting the issue for his own gain, charging organisations £12k for personal appearances, reaping a hefty salary from KEO Productions for making the programme. I have'nt heard of HFW making any donations to the RNLI or Fishermen's Mission through his success in exploiting such an issue.

Its a scandal that the Fishing Industry & her Communities are the fall guys to the Enviromentalists and Green Organisations, it's organisations like these (and the CFP) that have helped shaft the industry more so over the past decade, since the Government started to take them more seriously, mind you why they are taken seriously I dont know, you just need to look at the past life threatening antics that Greenpeace have got up to over the years! And now with the telivised success of Hugh's Fish Fight the Greenies will not be happy until their wish is granted to see very little Fishing Effort left.

Books to read on "conservationists" versus the community- if you want a good insight ( and a good laugh tae!!)-into the minds of some of these environmentalist (who put the "mental" in environmentalist!:oD ) you could do worse than read Ian Mitchells books The Isles of the West and The Isles of the North. One memorable quote .."If you want to get on in the conservation industry in Scotland -it helps to be ENGLISH!" Nuff said!
Another thought/ idea ..... Carol Cod Crusader:> with your "media profile" could you not persuade Shug Chuffin Sh*ttingh*le to give you air time on one of his progs ..to provide "editorial balance etc blah blah" Surely the EBC with its citizens charter would be obliged to listen to a genuine voice from a fishing community!? Niave me!:o?

Finally , I remember overhearing a tourists looking at a pile o bulk waiting redding up commenting on how they would eat fish from the clyde because of how dirty the prawns were! I explained they lived in wee burrows,in the mud etc. and hosed a few down ..but she still wouldnt take the offer of a few free selected, washed ,still live whole, after my erudite explanation! ;o? Thats what you're up against!!
