Can anyone help me with any bits of info about the development of the 'Ports of Registry' on the Clyde Coast?
Most were created in 1869 after the 1868 Sea Fisheries Act but I believe that there may have been changes at Irvine in 1902 and there was a big shake up in 1906/07 which included the creation of the BA registration and I think changes in Ardrishaig/Tarbert. I would like to track down and record this history in its entirity.
I would also be interested in any other such changes at any place on the West coast. I think I have a complete history of the East Coast arrangements.
Finally for now..............I've been searching intensely for more than two years for the BA registers and have found none of them. Virtually all of the registers for all other Scottish ports have survived and are available in the national or local archives but none of the BA ones are known. This is a serious issue given the importance of the BA fleet for almost 100 years. I'm sure that these have survived somewhere. Can anyone give me any info/clues as to where they might be tracked down and made safe for posterity?
Thanks
Douglas
