Rationale is that the resources that we do have left will in years to come be mined using techniques not yet invented - by then we will have used up the rest of the World's coal!
Of course the coal that does come into the Port of Tyne is a swiftly transported by train to the Power Stations 'doon sooth'.

Just a shame that instead of cheap coal being dumped in the UK it couldn't have been OIL
Of course if the plans for a new coal fired power station at Cambois get passed we will see much more coal coming into the Tyne - then on trains to Cambois as its evidently too expensive to convert the Port of Blyth to take Panamax Bulkers!
