Nice wee touch there...the leather strap on the window is long gone and a length of courlene(we used to braid it to make them)is replacing it.The good old Swedish spike to hold the window up as well...whetever else you could say against fishermen they were certainly resourceful...if it couldnae be sorted wi' a wee bit o' twine it wis buggered lol

funny ronnie here we used the seat belt of a car to replace braided twine-i cant mind the leather ones not being from the same genre as yerself-they were all long gone in my time. the spike was a favourite here to for keeping the window closed-one boat that was here at the gillnets the skipper drilled a hole through the spike handle  and put the obligatory piece of twine on it so it wouldnt go missing an all the splicing and loosening of knots had to be done at the wheelhouse window. when one of the crew was asked why not buy another one-he replied naw or he`d just start opening another window-and we`d still have no spike!

And every single one of them was no doubt richly deserved !!..aye,some of them could fairly lay it on with the old "Lochgelly Tawse" when the mood took them..and what have they got now?..exclusion for a week. The little ba**ards must be shaking in their shoes(laughing)at the thought of that particular punishment...give me feckin' strength lol

at the school my two eldest go to-my wife`s nephew got himself suspended for a week-what for?-skiving school-what`s the world coming to give the lad a week of as a punishment for not going in the first place? no wonder the country`s the way it is.
