The one that's turning is an old  zulu skiff and they dig in quite a bit as they pick up speed
Seems a big crew aboard the vanguard, looks like 4 of them, unless its landing day & all helping-out, thats what we did in the old days !
They probably fishin aboot 50 creels an makin a pay !!?
looks like a couple of fleets aboard the Vanguard there.
could be the extra 2 men`s boat is broken down, and the Vanguard`s  been bringing their gear ashore for them.
50 creels a man would of been about the max then.sorcha.
and that was just self imposed.
hand hauling had a lot to do with it too.

Mind the old man telling me that they were only working 160 creels with 4 of them aboard a 34 feet yawl, that was back in the '40s,still getting a decent living too.40 creels a man nowadays "wouldnae pey for the tay bags" as Suartie Finlay used to say! Don't think that pic is an old one though, maybe early/mid 60s someway going by the oilskin suits?
nae parlours in them days deisel was cheap so was grub, and booze n fags etc etc

    Gentlemen !...........my point entirely!
