you would have expected to see some wear on the rail if this has been used for hauling pots, dare say you could make some kind of bracket with a block on it, just take a couple of turns of rope round it and should haul.
Maybe fit a foot pedal for safety so s soon as you foot is lifted off the switch it kills the power to it
Looks like its only been used for lifting the anchor, barry, as you say no ware on the rail. This will haul pots, though slowly if in any real depth, if i was going to use it i would reposition it further forrad on the shoulder, otherwise you will haul broadside on, a bit uncomfortable at times.............. O0 O0 O0 O0
ya there is a quite a lot of ware on the gunwale and along the reinforcing/ware patch which has nearly gone right through on both ends along with rope marks on the rubber fendering for and aft of the capstan
its just a poor pic as it was pitch black when i took it
also got the capstan of today with alot of help of an angle grinder and there is 3 wires 2 main batt ones and a blue with white one would it be 1 main to + and 1 main to - and the other to + ?

Probably the common to allow forward and reverse from a foot or hand control
