I remember as a 14 year old going for a sail out of Dunbar to the prawns with the St.Clair's of Port Seton.Come breakfast time we were all sitting at the table in the fo'c'scle, meal on the plates, and me still with my toorie hat on my head, waiting for the skipper John Sinclair to come down and say the grace as she was a "dacent christian ship".He was a big man built like Hoss Cartwright out of Bonanza, and he sat next to me,put a huge hand on my head, lifted my toorie, dropped it in my lap and gave me a sinker of a look that said it all. He's gone now,but what a great guy he was..a hard grafting, decent God fearing fisherman, who was very kind to me both on the boat and ashore in his house, giving me my dinner before I got a lift home to Dunbar on the fish lorry.I have many fond memories indeed of "Big John".
