AM I FINISHED YET ?
Valid points gentlemen, especially the 24/7 and 365 comment, but it all stems from the introduction of licences, that's where the rot first set in.They should never have been introduced in the first place. The fit survive, the unfit don't,that's the way it always was before and the fishing industry(or any other business come to that)had men who made it and kept going through thick and thin, and others who fell by the wayside...that's life, sad but true, and it should have been left that way.But the thought of fat cats sitting ashore with quota coming out their ears and renting it out to the highest bidder(perfectly legally)while others are expected to survive on what can only be described as a laughable amount, makes me spit. The whole system stinks and is never going to get better as we all know only too well, but I see no improvement in the future,or indeed any way to make it fairer for all, short of doing a Robin Hood and taking from the rich to give to the poor ??....a good idea but I don't see it getting much support !!
Licences, more power, technology, bigger boats or whatever
Greed is the bottom line gents, which is basically what the 365 24/7 comment is all about
There's plenty of greedy b******s about who are in it for the money and money only
Thats just great, but has all but wrecked the industry now and for the future
If people had (here and abroad) had taken a more measured approach to the industry there should have been plenty to make a decent living for all
If you want to be a multi millionaire then practice dribbling, headers, tackling and strikes on goal

well said
Need or greed ?? Work to live, not live to work was always my thinking when I was at sea(was never top dog but was happy to get my share)and I only worked one full week-end at sea in 42 years and that was after being tied up all week broken down,so it is possible to survive without going 24/7. I can't see it ever getting back to that,we're too far along the road now,but we need to do something pretty soon before the arse falls out of the job totally.
For lots its now need Ron, but its got to this state simply through greed
i might have said this before if so i don't apologise for saying it again
you'll have noticed that everyone who has commented has more than likely an example in their head while making their statement, a boat or skipper who falls into the greedy or whichever other category they might be commenting on. couldn't possibly be making a sweeping statement based on little or no facts, so i'm safe in assuming that all have got a name in mind when posting?
i'll also assume that even if they mentioned this name (which nobody expects them to, its a private opinion) they'd be safe from this persons ire as i for one have noticed that the greedy b@stards are not members of this or any other site, the "big Boys" are too good for the likes of us, this sort of thing is beneath them, not for them to socialise with the work to live brigade, too busy living to work, theres quota to be had, fortunes to be made, then again theres a boat to be paid, luckily i was never in the position of having a seven figure investment, must bring a special kind of pressure with it, tho i always reckoned that if you got to the stage where you made that size of investment then you'd crossed over from being someone who just happened to make their living as a fisherman and became a different kind of creature altogether. from what i see it brings its own kind of singleminded determination, somewhere along the way you lose that little spark that bonds the members of this site, life becomes all too serious, all the time, never happy with your lot, enough is never enough, in other words a selfish, greedy, boring, b@stard, not a description that would label any of this site's members.
if i lost track of the topic during that then don't expect me to read it so i can correct anything, that would be boring and you would only be a b@stard for bringing it to my attention.

Different people, diferent attitudes.
Why are you greedy if you want to be the best at what you do? The more you make, the more you spend, everyone wins.
Being determined and being greedy are not the same in my book.
Anyway, didnt the boy above do well sticking those trackballs down, he'll be tired tonight.
