Mystery ship could be Lochbroom (1) built 1871 at Govan as City of London. MacBraynes acquired her in 1931 for the west coast trade from Glasgow. They sold her for scrap in 1937 to Port Glasgow.She was a big boat at the time and only ran for 6 months per year due to the running costs......info West Highland Steamers by Duckworth & Langmuir.
looks like the dunara castle ran freight and passengers from glasgow up and down the west coast coast from the late eighteen hundreds till the early forties
Hi MT Could be Dunara Castle, but she had a distinct step in her bulwarks aft of the lifeboats and an almost complete black hull whilst the Lochbroom(1) had a continuous top rail along the aft 2/3 and a distinct white top stroke. We could both be wrong no doubt some experts from the WHSC could solve the mystery!!! Half the fun with old boats is trying to identify them and do a bit of research. Keep them coming.....
aye brian wasent that sure to be honest just thought it looked quite like photos id seen of D.C and would be about the right era . not even sure if mallaig was one of D.C port of calls
