What a cracking set of photos John, just goes to show you the power that "Mother Nature" has when she gets in a temper.(shows you the power of man's inventiveness as well though to get a big lump of a boat like yon back in the water again)

She finished up with her stem at the telephone pole, if both had'nt finished up so close to road might have been another story Ron, think it was Salvus Bain that organised the recovery op

Got me there Bryan, was 19 and all I can remember is that me and my brother were aboard our boat to put out more ropes then could'nt get ashore the tide was so high so old fella roared from the quay to stay put, what a night finished up firing up the engine and steaming ahead at half revs and strain would'nt come of the ropes.
after hearing you's speaking about this the last week john it is great to see some pics of this just cant imagine the boats being blown that far

and the telegraph pole still standing or was that put back up

i remember it vividly even tho i was only five and a half, my cousins lived in dalmuir at the time and the flats they lived in had a flat roof which was blown clean off, the flats were only two floors and they lived on the ground floor so got off lightly compared with the flat above. the roof was blown into the forth and clyde which ran along the back of the flats, that was the same year that the canal was hoaching with goldfish where it dissects kilbowie rd across towards where the shopping centre is now., where they came from who knows but we were catching the mwith a length of bamboo with a safety pin on a bit of string and a bit bread on it. the storm was connected, something to do with a fairs winter headquarters and it being damaged and the fish being released into the canal as the place they bred them was damaged?>:(?

i've seen pics of that scene before, was there more than one boat lifted out or have i just seen a pic taken further up towards the dentist/doctors? forget which it was, vet? something medical, the white hoose afor the roadend?;):D
