Hopper full aboard the Kaylana SY21. Prawns were absolute poor quality and needless to say not a lot came out of it and one crewman jacked in.........for a couple of days!!

i'm with ronnie, they don't look that bad to me, decent looking taiing prawn with a few whole thru it, or is anything over 60 tothe pound considered dross these days? looks like 20st at 80-90 and half a dozen baskets, maybe not brilliant but plenty days you'd be more than glad of it, and thats coming from someone who worked hoppers at least 9 months of the year.

Tails in the North Minch in the summer are usually 100 plus to the pound! If i remember right we were lucky to get two baskets of small live out of that haul. Second codend always had better prawn than the first one.
we would have been happy enough with a haul like that .and thats sayin something cos the prawns was allways the last resort .only way we went to the job was when the hopper net was b
lizted changed over as soon as hoppers were mended(mind that was 20 year ago happy days lol)

that lot look closer to 100 to the kilo than 100 to the pound, 50st of bulk? three clyde tailers would clear the lot in four hrs max, might take my three a bit longer but none of us has tailed a prawn in fifteen yrs and we are 46,51 and 70 respectivley, stilll think five hours would see that cleared no bother, bet theres some could nearly half that time.
