Just doesnae have that sailing look about her someway Will..just after the first war to the mid 20s if I had to make a (probably wrong!!) guess when she was built. The pic's in the 1950s section, but I think it's maybe a bit before that going by the broadside winch..40s maybe,or even earlier??

Maybe Ronnie.  I know that Bruces was built in 1926 and she was quite well kitted out when built wi bigger wheelhouse, chain rudder, Miller winch with integral coiler, higher gunwales.  It'll be interesting to see if anybody else has anything to say. Thanks for your comments and time.  If I build (and it's likely), I go with what I can glean up to part way through the build.  Trouble is that so many people wait til after it's built before saying anything. Looking forward to your comments and knowledge of the industry.
    Cheers

Its a pity that the photogrpher hadnt waited till the tide dropped another foot or so, and we would see if that was a false stern post,so that the propeller was in the fore side of it...The actual stern post would curve away under the stern , something like a cruiser stern ..This meant that they didnt have to cut a bit out of the rudder, giving her better steerage,  of course I  could be wrong, and we might never know :coolsmiley:

Will the photo must be late 40s or early 50s as Gerrard boat yard is not in the photo and it started 55/56.
I'll hoy me neck out a bit further than ronnies then..

I'd say thats definitely a false stern post, lines are almost the same as Pansy's hint end, although Pansy rakes a lot more steeply.

doesn't mean to say that its not just a big deadwood to allow a prop cutout though which was added on when motorised

looks like a raised coachroof with the engine room hatch on, so must be pretty shallow
the answer could maybe be found in the signal tower mueseum in the background but think its closed just now :coolsmiley:

Thanks for all the comments lads. I'll be watching this one permanently. Tried dating it from the clothes on the wifies on the beach.......Looks 30's...?  Was that the old ropeworks or wood yard on the top of the seawall.  There also used to be a boatyard up there at one time about the turn of the 19th/20th centuries (long before Gerrards). Had hoped to be up at Arbroath today but I'll have to put it off for a wee whiley. Will try the signal tower museum for dates of local industry.

What I meant to say ,and should have said  markh, was. if she had the false stern post, then she was built for an engine,if not ,she was converted from sail.. :coolsmiley:
