Silver Quest ... built off same drawings as Ribhinn Donn I ... seen here in Douglas IOM mid-to-late 70s
These days she languishes in a creek near Falmouth painted black and yellow with false cannon ports hung along the bulwarks
Great picture Jay, I wonder how many boats nobles built, I am 38 but more and more keep popping up. I suspect they build many more than Weatherhead did by the sheer number of pictures I have seen. Any ideas on numbers built? Cheers M
Hi OB34
Both Noble and Weatherhead (Weatherhead & Blackie in later life) built a lot of boats
There's a definitive list of Noble-builds thanks to an excellent National Maritime Museum monograph that's long out of print. Also, the yard keeps up to date in that regard
Tougher with Weatherhead ... the last series of boats alone was in the order of either 12 or 20 (can't remember which is right), starting with Maryeared ... all off the same basic set of drawings
One of our number on this board or Trawlerphotos has, as I recall, done quite a lot of research into the Weahterhead story but canne mind fa it is?
Hope that helps

Graham Toward has done a lot of research on the yards Jay.
Very useful to know
I studied the Scottish yards in depth in the early 1980s as core of some Robert Gordon Univeristy research

Bob McCutcheon had her built Silver Quest BA302 went to IOM 1979
From 1947 to 1994 Nobles of Girvan built 98 fishing and other boats. The Siver Quest of 1967 was built no.57 the Ribhinn Donn/Bhan 1966 was no 55 as the 40ft Wanderer BA298 was built in between. A complete list of their builds was sent to me by Nobles a few years ago so if anyone wants any such info just let me know.
Hi guys
Was lucky enough to buy a copy of Alex Noble's monograph on the boats built by his yard, so have the complete list
