Very good photo plenty of herring has come over her rail in days gone by. O0
I'll have a guess at naming the crew. Barry Sloan on starboard shoulder, sure of that. John Watson snr walking aft on port shoulder? Alex "Bash2 Fyfe and Hugh "Junior" McPhee sitting on pound board.  Cameron "Snowy" Ware and Tom Harvey at back of wheelhouse. Curly would be in the box.
    Don't suppose for a minute I'm 100% right, but it'll start a discussion!

Were the Sloans as good at the pair trawl as they were reputed to be at the ringnet?
I'm to young to know but from what i've been told I think it would be hard to look past tom hay and bob mccutcheon for pairtrawl ability on the Ayrshire side, though they were later on the scene admittedly. I did hear Howard knew a thing or two. Especially when it came to the first generation of colour sounders. Donald sugar always told me the key to midwater fishing was always horsepower and he wasn't wrong. Still stands today. When the scotsmen were still arsing about with the purse out west, the Irishmen threw out there sewing machines and put in 3000hp each and pioneered mackerel pairtrawling. Wasn't long till everyone caught on!!  It's no coincidence that the two biggest and best pelagic boats on the go now(altaire and voyager) also have the biggest engines. 16v 32 wartsilas. Still, progress isn't really progress when you see what has happened. Bring in a 500hp limit and let the good times roll!! Aye right like that will ever happen!
SAW THIS 1 BUILT FROM KEEL UP FINE BOAT IN HER DAY THE SLOANS WERE A LEGEND AT CATCHING HERRING GIVE ANYONE A BOAT LIKE THIS NOW AND SEE IF THEY COULD EVEN MAKE A LIVING
i hear there are a few herrin appearing in all the hidey holes on the west side of the minches. maybe time for a ring net return lol. who would know where to start?
