Built Irvins 1961 as Graceful PD343 for Philip Morgan, originally of Whinnyfold, near Cruden Bay. 200 Gardner. Built for great-lines and seine net. Mainly seine net. Taken over by Philip's brother Alex, who named her Regent Bird .. after his father- in- law's steam drifter, I think.
I hope ye dinna mind me chipping in again Gee Bee, but I feel I must tell ye this story which Im sure is very true. About 15 years ago, I usedto be paid a few visits in my local domain far I mak my creels, by a very nice quiet man,who I only knew as Jimmy. He was very interesting, and although he said that he stayed in PETERHEAD, he was an ORCADIAN, which was fairly obvious by his accent. He told some amazing stories about where he lived in the west side of ORKENEY, some of which was hard to believe, but he told them in a very quiet way,but one would be of interest to this subject the REGENT BIRD. He said that he bought the wreck from the insurance for a very small sum of money, I cant remember how mutch, but a few hundred pounds. He told me about her breaking up very quickly ,but not before he made arrangements to salvage the winch , power block and engine sucessfully. I had no reason to dought him, because as I said , he seemed a genuine person. I dont know what happened to Jimmy cos his visits just gradually ceased, and I have never seen him since...
