A wee blast from the past here and a coakynut on offer to the first one under 30 to come up with the answer(withoot getting help fae the auld lads!)Found them hidden away up at the back of the garage under a pile of junk, must date from around the mid to late 70s somewhere.
Are they clamps for sealing jute bags?
for joinin belts for belt driven winches
Yeah, thats what i meant to say.
We used to use the pit type clips they were more of a wire and came on a carboard magazine as the clips were all individual, still got the machine to put them into the belt and boxes of clips somewhere,,,,,,,though as I recall we used welding rods as the pins
I.D. required to prove ye're under 30 before I post the coakynut Forgot to say...we called them belt lacings, some called them alligator's teeth...probably had a different name in every port!
ERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR if thats the case Ronnie my coconut days are well over
You and me both brother
F****** NIGHTMARE
As long as the belt was in good nick and tight, and the lacings were OK then a belt driven winch took a bit of beating and would pull the devil oot his den. If,on the other hand, the belt or the lacings were old and kept breaking, they were as you quite rightly say Loch Torridon a "f*****g nightmare"
Just put a wee bit pressure on the jockey arm boys and we'll get this stone up ahhhhhh for f### sake u've push'd too hard now look what youve done `1 hr , 2 skint knuckles and alot of bad words later and you're back where you started !!! And i'm nearer 50 than 30 !!!
