funny you should say that bob was saying ats one of the last manual ones there will be there all going electric now which he says can be a bad thing cause if someting goes wrong or doesnt the engine will cut out and wont start till the problem is found which could be nothing
then the latest computer nerd from caterpillar will come down and plug his laptop in shake his head and say i dont like the look of that youl have to have new lamda sensors on that and your electronic injectors are a little weak well have to change them too and then it still wont start been down that road never again give me mechanical any day
i engines now adays they are so compact and pack as much punch as the old ones
Its just absolute nonsense, I got sent on 2 week course to learn to use the laptop and the guy was down doing the commissioning on the new build yacht I was on, showing me the engine could still run on with only four cylinders firing out of 16, absolutely great, absolutely nonsense if you ask me, after 6 months went o change out and injector and had forgotten how to use the stinking laptop, took me an hour to change the injector and 3 hours to remember how to program the new injector into the engine.
They are making all their money by making the engines completly unfixable by anyone without the expensive software and a degree in computing.
CAT launched the new C9's and they are junk, oil pumps lasting 500 hours, intercoolers lasting 250 hours, would never have a new eletronic cat as the generators onboard if I ever do a new build.
