Norcape had been in the Tyne having had an annual refit carried out by A&P at Hebburn on Tyne. Major works included the removal of existing doubler plate circa 1800mē on the upper deck, main deck and tank top and circa 2300mē plating repairs using SPS methods to major parts of cargo decks and lower hold tank top. Also the removal and renewal of the main engine crankshaft.
