Leaving Tarbert the hard way

Leaving Tarbert the hard way

When men were men leaving the harbour.
From Kay MacDougall

Wonder how many of these guys thought it was the good old days John?

lYou're quite right and the photo depicts calm weather can imagine the hardships they endured in bad weather.  I suppose its a case of not knowing anything different that would have made their lives easier at the time.  Considering their general living conditions life must have been tough. But what an atmospheric photograph of a great scene. I hope to be following their tracks in a couple of weeks, under power.

See some of them doubled up with the oars to get out the harbour faster Dan, bet they were talking about them in the pubs at weekends calling them greedy so and so's, twin riggers days gone by kinda thing!
Remember ma grandfather telling me that his first trip as a fisherman was at the smallin'. It was calm so they had to row to Lochranza from the Maidens. NOW THATS CHEUCH!  :smitten:
Ma memory's away!  :smitten: It took them 14 hours tae get to Lochranza, then they had tae shoot the lines! CHEUCH!
