Girl Nancy LH 406

Lying in Dunbar around 1965.The net on the pier is the Old Man's "bobbin net"..the bobbins were old wooden wheels,cut up mangle rollers and wee pram wheels (honestly,I'm not kidding here!) I was never out with him when he worked that gear,but he told me it would go over anything,and fished well.But there again she had oodles of power in the 66 Kelvin(more power in a good fart !!)

    yeah it puts us in our compartment right enough-was just thinking- when your da bought the boat-he probably had umpteen sets of bobbin  footropes for a 66 kelvin with all the rosary beeds that would be aboard her!!

    Actually no Frank they didn't.We were grass rope men born and bred.It just so happened that the fish were being caught on the hard ground but with a lot of gear damage,and the old man fancied trying something different.They were towing on ground where they shot creels before, and had to go away astern at times when they stuck,then take a run at it to get her to come.Oh for REAL power like a 95 Gardner...what could he have done with that !!!

    Built 1941 by Skinner, Baltimore. Was D260 at Balbriggan. This is the history I have.
    Andy Reed, Balbriggan: Sean Jennings, Galway; To Dunbar 1963 - LH406; Ronnie Marr, Dunbar; Spedding, Shields; ?,Tain;
    better than that there were no guy ropes to the bobbins either, for hauling back aboard, just porage power...
    old deckhose was slung in between the bobbins to protect the rope through them..
