Sam-Sam seen here at Ijmuiden (Netherlands) 2008.

Can be an eye opener to see how far the barges lower in the canal as they take on a full load.

The set up at Ijmuiden is that Dredgers bring in loads of sand and drop it within a catchment area to the East of the Fort. A suction pump then sucks up the sand and loads it onto barges for transport on the canals to various places within the Amsterdam area.

The crew of the barges tend to live onboard and you will often see cars on the bow, these are craned on and off when the crew need to travel anywhere on land.

    Hi HC

Yes, it works the other way around in Holland  :)

Nahhh, just a cut and paste from a previous shot that had a car on the STERN. Now amended, but 10/10 for spotting the mistake and good to see that some members actually read what is written!
