Operated by the Port of Tyne Authority,the 15m by 6m Clearwater is fitted with a large crane and is used to remove debris such as cars and gas bottles from the river. The steel boat will operate alongside a small twin-hulled aluminium boat called the SITA Eater that is designed specifically to catch the flotsam and jetsam in a removable collection pod which is then emptied by the Clearwater.
