Conveyor of scallops
Pure yuk!!! It proves that if the stocks are managed correctly it could be fished successfully. Just a pity everybody and their granny makes their way down to IOM for the stroke of midnight. And then they wonder why the price if half it was 15 year ago. Seperate issue - about time the West of Scotland was down to 5 a side inside, say, a quarter mile and down to a 6 o'clock to 6 o'clock fishery...and that isn't 24 hours I mean. Thats what you build your "super" clammers for...working in weather, offshore. If your good enough you'll make a penny in one tide..if not, get out the wheel house and stop following they lines on your flat screen. I want a job to enjoy and pay the bills in 20 year. Scrap that, make it 5 year. And before anyone says, this isn't a dig at anyone or starting anything and I am just a common crewman with aspirations...I just want a successful industry. It will not do it itself. Next subject, the prawns...... Humbug.
better 2 be conservitive than a lyin b****rd John, wee bit like yer self hope yer keepin' good, no spoke too you for a while
If my memory serves me correct i think there was 8 baskets on that starboard side.
It was a pleasure to see a fishery like that but i'm hearing some horror stories about what its like after this years pounding.
The scallops could be a great job if it was run right but im afraid its going down a slippery slope for the smaller boats. Then with market trends and high expense the larger boats are pressured in to working more time inshore.
Says it all when there is only 1 clammer now operating in the north minch full time.
The joys of present times! It all comes down to common sense at the end of the day.
