    The Hercules rings a bell,wonder if it was named after the Brown and Root lay barge Hercules which I think is now scrapped.

    Due to his mythical strength, Hercules is a popular name for anything with pulling power.

    For instance Lloyds currently have 20 vessels registered under that name, mostly Tugs. Also the Miramar web site at http://www.miramarshipindex.org.nz/ lists 135 examples of Hercules being used on vessels since 1822.
