    She was fishing off Iceland c1972 and she had a Pakistani sparks. He couldn’t communicate with the broad Scottish skipper to the point that he locked himself in the radio room, he also wouldn’t do additional work on deck or help in the galley. At the time all the fleet were icing up and were told to take shelter. All the fleet headed to the fjords near Seydisfjord along the east coast.

    There was no communication with Ben Gulvain, so the standby vessel Othello (my ship) went to her last position and in doing so started icing up more.

    After several hours searching a radio message came through that she had been sited sheltering. Her skipper had chosen to shelter due to the weather and had not received the call to take shelter from Othello like the rest of the fleet.

    There were a few strong words from our Navy representative. But thankfully all were safe.
