Matt and Billy Sloan's old ringers Watchful and Wisteria met briefly in Ayr this afternoon. The Shemaron (Ex Wisteria) crossed over from Campbeltown on a flying visit (And she was flying!) and lay for a while at the entrance to the dry dock that holds the hull of the Watchful.
Whats watchful sitting there for?
supposed to be a reminder to future generations of the fishing boats and men that fished for herring at the ring net.
its just a pity some lottery money couldn`t be found to put her back to her former glory,
i think it took them going to eventually stick some paint on her.
nice gesture from SHEMARON. giving a salute there..

it was just one of many hair brained schemes by south ayrshire council, hardly looked at since the day and hour it arrived, probably rotten through by now .
A sad monument
Yet another example of incompetent maritime preservation in the UK; we are masters at fcuking things up. Look at the Carrick, for heaven's sake; that was a monumental balls up from first to last
A few more years and Watchful's hull will be in such poor condition that it will have to be broken up. Rainwater penetration will ensure that

there is NO way it will be preserved where it is sitting,in hindsight it should have went to maidens harbour where there was a chance of it getting maintained by the harbour committee or volunteers
pity i couldnt get any closer ,but still glad we got a pic of the boats together next time i want to visit Dunure and Maidens maybe in late june or july
Let me know about that Chris and I will head down again. I would imagine you would need a good full tide to get into these harbours.
