Strathspey II lying abandonned in Stornoway, April 2012
What a disgraceful mess. Seems to get passed from one non-enthusiast to another. Wish I could afford to buy her. So sad.
most dreamers dont have a cluel how long and how much paint it takes to do a decent paint job on a boat this size, never mind the berthing fees and fuel and and and...............
She wasn't in too bad condition when she came to Stornoway, the engine was even still a runner but she was just abandonned and left to go to waste, she had a fire in the engineroom and she's flooded quite a few times. Apparently the owner whoever he is, is still paying the harbour dues and he even had the boat put on the slip last year to be recaulked below the waterline as she was leaking bad. She seems to not be leaking now as i've not seen anybody pumping her out since last year.
I was on her in Lochinver 2008 and she was BONE dry. There was a worry tho that once the prop was turned, she might start leaking. The upgraded 'from 320 to 380' Kelvin started on the button and ran sweet as a nut. There was also a single cylinder Gardner auxiliary. Andrew Tognola had her at that time and there is a blog on the "conversion and fitting out". Sad it came to nothing.
She was dry for a long time when she was left here but she was taking the bottom at very low tides so she lost a bit of caulking and was leaking badly, spent 2 and half hours myself one day with a salvage pump on her. The engine will be well seized now the amount of times its been under. I did hear the owner was looking for someone to tow her south but she's still lying here.
I appreciate the info, Iain. I was quite fond of her. Many thanks.

was she shimanda at one time?
Yes, the same. Shimanda BCK 96.
Yes, she was the Shimanda until she finished fishing and the guy who was converting her renamed her Strathspey II.
thanks for that.
as angus said, deep pockets are required to make something out of any restoration project,
and its never ending..
