Looks like a torpedo head, were quite a lot of them got up at the old Ammo dumping ground and spread around, some were dummies and others the real macoy !
could be a mine, doubtful all the same, the subs fire similar looking out their tubes, they have flattish heads, but only see them well up the Firth near the minefield at Ettrick Bay

looks like the ballast tank (centre section ) from a torpedo 21 1/2" in diameter if my memory serves me right
