Silver Birch - busy day

Silver Birch - busy day

Started the day by making up and fixing the triple rubbing strakes for the hull and adding the bilge keels. Decided to start the hull painting which tends to show up any problems but there weren't any so carried on to completion followed up with a couple of coats of varnish. Remainder of time spent doing the drawing for the wheelhouse/galley which was scaled from photograph. This is necessary to establish the location and size aperture to 'below decks'. I'm pretty sure that the winch is a 'Sutherland' product and fortunately I have a drawing for one. The coiler appears to be the Beccles type so unless anybody knows different, that's how it will progress.

Had not noticed this before Will. I assume it was the plan of a 45-ft MFV that you used as basis for model, look mpretty good, is she finished yet?

Hi Jim. Yes, it is from your drawing of the 45ft MFV.  As drawn except from a very slight alteration to slightly straighten up the top of the stern post to suit the Silver Birch. You can see her on p69 of your book 'Fishing Boats of Scotland'. She's a good bit to go yet but I am reporting progress in 'real time' on these pages.
    Cheers
