Shemaron

Shemaron

http://journeytoscotland.blogspot.com/ my wifes Fiona's view of Shemaron among other things

We have to hand it to him, Chris has done a terrific job restoring Shemaron to a ringer layout.

However, my having said nothing thus far, its time to adjust the setting of the foremast in its tabernacle. The pivot point should be the upper tabernacle bolt, not lower one.

But, given the design of this particular tabernacle, I can see why my recommendation can't be implemented as things stand right now.

The backplate needs reducing in height to enable it; also the tabernacle needs rotating 180 degrees to work properly

This is Critique ,,, NOT criticism

Hope life is getting back to normal for you Chris following the contracts crisis that you suffered

    Jay
i saw some plans and pics of prewar boats with the fore mast like this , some boats with a stepped deck and high pivot have the fore mast starting to look almost horizontal, the way i have done it gives the general impression of a ringer,[my brailer pole is at least 2 feet too short]Work will continue on Shemaron maybe i will look again at the tabernacle later along with the wheelhouse
Thanks for asking Jay things are ok with business, still looking to sell and move to Kintyre
Chris there is nothing wrong with your tabernacle your mast is in the tab/ncl the right way.
    Chris
Check back through the Carradale pix on this site that show Shemaron with her original rig and you will see that her forward tabernacle is as I described.

The old Weatherhead boat that I had for five years was just the same too

And stacks of others were similarly set up

    Jay
Chris you have that tybe of tabernacle right, jay Cresswell I knew this boat from being new I know exactly what way she was rigged Chris any fisherman in Carradale will tell you it's right the tabernacle in a good lot of boats was this tybe I will tell why they were like this when I see you,
    Clearly have stirred a debate
But you can't argue with the foties on this website, now can ye?
Have just dug out the GA for Maryeared, first of the last series of Weatherhead boaties including Margaret Ann, Saffron, Investors, etc, etc. The GA shows the foremast and tabernacle rigged as described
I had the old 1937-built Weatherhead June Rose (later Margaret Alison) for five years and she had the same arrangement.
    see

Shemaron is furthest from camera ... but you can see the foot of her foremast clearly
One of the best ringnet men on the coast had a Tabernacle the same as you Chris, I don't need to argue with the foties the boats you are on about did'nt have this tybe of tabernacle , that's a long time at the fishing 5yr.
I'll tell ye one ringer that I think had the style of tabernacle that Chris has fitted to Shemaron and its the old Maid of the Mist ... much the same age of Weatherhead boatie. The pre-war Noss Head too, but Shemaron no, not according to what's on this website

Of course Chris, you could ask the Galbraiths if they've got any nice pix of Shemaron when she was a youngster ... before the tripod was fitted. That will surely settle the debate!
I'm not saying this is the tybe of tabernacle the boat was built with , we all know what tybe of tabernacle the boat had, that set up Chris has is first class, I must be losing the plot arguing about a fucken Tabernacle.
