1st coat of Oil

1st coat of Oil

The first coat of oil goes on. I almost religiously use raw linseed oil and turpentine, mixed 50:50 for the first coat and gradually using less turpentine with each subsequent one. It gives a really beautiful golden hue to the timber, smells great and protects very effectively. The down side being that you really have to get a lot of oil into the wood to get adequate protection. I'll put between 10 and 20 coats of oil on this boat before i finish her, but as there is no sanding or faff beyond a vacuum and rub down its really worth it.
