Clinker Dinghys First Day

Clinker Dinghys First Day

The boats the day they came into the workshop. The smaller one is 8 ft long, built in Balloch by Keirs probably around 1950. The larger is 12 ft built by Curries of Oban probably around the same time. Both are larch planking on oak frames, the 8 ft one has a mahogany sheer strake.

They belong the Lodge at Loch Goil which will use them for photography and weddings so they are going to have to end up immaculate.

Great boat builder Donnie Currie, tradesman of the old school.Any apprentice who served his time under him came out a damn good carpenter.Aye,there were some bonny wee clinker dinghies and launches built in the yard at Port Beag over the years. In his 80s now, still hale and hearty the last time I saw him a few months back.
you wont see these built like this again
