Ay Willie, it wis Jimmy Smith and his son in law, Bill Simpson, my fathers uncle and cousins husband that were drowned when the cobble was swamped when entering the harbour in a freshening northerly wind. I think it wis 19 52. My father was in that cobble the previous three years ,but left after a dispute wi his uncle, and got a job in the Pennan cobble wi James Johnstone of Gamrie where he was for the next fourteen years. Im sure the cobble was called Marjory . :-
Think it wis efter 52 Baden.was sitting at the harbour masters hut at tap o the pier,Reward tried to pick them up n' Dick jumped in for anither one Shetland Teenies man was taken to the steps wie a rope or a grapnel iron behind the coble. We bid at the tap o ' the pier then in Dossie sammies aul hoose. Twas a very sad day.Billy Simpson wis in my class in school. Never forget it the men floated back n' for in the channel for a while in the efterneen. very sad. Aul Frankie Gatt got his arm broken fin the Reward came in contact wie the pier.heavy swell rinnin inti harbour.
