My father & Uncle owned her till 1979
she was fully converted when she got chopped, somebody beat me to a load of deck fitting by about 2 hours
Here's a bow on shot taken in better times at Blyth:

Crystal Sea: She was built in 1948 at Mylne’s Ardmaleish Isle of Bute as the fishing boat BA104, she was only recently seriously damaged internally after being crushed in January on her berth in Blyth after being hit by a containership in high winds, everything in her engine room got moved! So bad she was declared a total loss and was taken to C.J.Marine on the Tyne to be scrapped in early February 2008.

this is not the nobles crystal sea OB 104 that your dad had barry too old and ugly looking for a nobles boat
This is not the Crystal Sea that Jimmy Manson had. This boat was  built by McMillan Fairlie for Jock Andrew's Maidens 1946/7 called the MAY QUEEN BA104 skippered by Dick Andrews when new. she was sold when Watty Andrews got the Ocean Gem built. she was bought by Dod Coull Buckie I think he came from or round about. he called her the CRYSTAL SEA 114 GARDENER Dod sold her on she was kicked about abit then ended Blyth. I SAW HER THERE.
This boat was a sister ship to Golden West and Venture, in the picture above she is even the same colour scheme we had the West in the 80's.

She was almost the same boat as the G/WEST McMillan built 17 ringnet boat's last one Ocean Maid for Johnny McMillan Carradale I am not to sure was the Castle Moil BRD the first ringer he built after the  war if not she cetainly was the second ? Golden West.  or.....May Queen one of them could be the first  he built 8 with raised foredeck 9 with flush. The Castle Moil 120 gleniffer and a small engine in the forend of the hold petrol..parafin thing which drove fored winch bloody hopeless Big Dan took it out slung over the side in Rona Sound for year's that winch sat there fored like a statue.
Met the owner of St Clair in Tarbert the other week( also Fairlie built ) and both she and the Golden West had brass composite fastenings, wonder if any of the others built at Fairlie did, I do know that the Golden Venture did not. Anyone know, infact does anyone have a full list of the names of the boats from Fairlie?

    Cheers
    Bob
