Lying in Buckie harbour.
She wis a richt bonny boat ally, they raised the wheelhoose and got sheltered in Wick,it fair spoilt the look o' the boat altogether, but i suppose they had to move with the times eh,took fire and sunk on the Whiten Head bank, sad end for the boat.
Aye she was a bonnie craft richt enough Wull, got well looked after.
Granted it's maybe no the best wheelhouse for seeing ower the stem, but I'll bet ye the mannie aboard there was a helluva lot mair comfortable on a rowly day than the lad in his "block o' flats" bridge lol The men that had these boats built that way did it for a good reason...they werenae daft :-
Built Sandhaven as Diligent FR on '66, for George Tait (Starry Dick). Drift netter, but changed to whitefish trawl. Persisted at pout fishing when most had stopped.
I did some work on her when she was being built , including helping to make 2 mizzens, and of course.....baggywrinkle. We also spliced together a whole fleet of seine net ropes that were never used by Starry, the original skipper. I was in Sandhaven to see her launched on a Saturday morning , but she stuck on the ways , and although i waited a good while, I never saw the actual launch which happened soon after I left..She was worked hard at the drift net and always amongst the top earners.. In 19 73 at the Shetland fishing when only a very small fleet of drifters were pursuing the elusive herring, I was there on the SILVER WAVE, but the DILIGENT and the GIRL PAT were there and both boats grossed over £4,000 for one weeks fishing , an enormous ammount at that time. Sadly 2 years later it was all over for the drifters.. :-
