i have a pic somewhere that is nearly an exact copy of that one, mine was taken in machrie in july, can't remember the year but must have been late 70's or very early 80's, i was young enough anddaft enough to be up the mast with binoculars spotting so i could see the fincutter? shoot one, think he got three that day, what we were doing in the soon atthat time of year i don't know? so it might have been a bit earlier and we were just back out from painting and hadn't retreated roon the corner again, but the pic is much the same with neville in the rubber dingy with a big breed knife or would that be a flensing knife or some such name.

I bet the wee Girl Avril didnae stand as straight when he winched one up alongside her ! I had her rail over to the water wi a bag o fish when I had her a few years later an it wis nae where near as heavy as a basker.

don't think he got many when he had the gun on her? might be wrong, when they did the tv program he had the star of david, which i think i'm right in saying was originally either james noon's CN built crimson arrow or cubby galbraith's CN built aquarius?
only ever saw the avril once, at the bight of pladda, can't even remember if the gun was on her at the time

The Big Anvil told me he was oot a sail on her one day when they got one an hauled it up on the scallop poles - says he had to stand on the side o the wheelhoose she had that big a list.
Memories, sweet memories. This was taken in 83 before we broke the foremast.
We were still struggling tae find the best way o working wi the beasts at that time. Thankfully, for Nev and Mike Muir, who were the dinghy men, we discarded it soon after the picture was taken.
We were absolutely fearless then, Hanging on, standing on a 5 ton monster as it  jumped aboot, like sittin on a buckin bronco...  Hardy lads............... .
We had 2 x 32footers aboard the Avril one day. By that time it was easy peasy, cut them into chunks and lift them aboard.
