Service: 12 May 2011 – Stranded trawler rescued by all weather lifeboat

12 May 2011 Tynemouth RNLI all weather lifeboat tows trawler Luc to safety in the Tyne after her nets fouled her propeller. 12 May 2011 08:40: The all weather lifeboat was paged at 08:40 after the skipper of 18m trawler Luc called Humber Coastguard to report his propellor was fouled by the 'cod end' of his nets and it was impossible to free. His position was 15 miles northeast of the Tyne piers.  The lifeboat made best speed to the casualty vessel arriving 35 minutes after launch. A tow was quickly attached and the Luc, with two crew aboard towed to safety at her home port of North Shields fish quay, arriving at 12:05. As the lifeboat attempted to take the Luc alongside for the final part of the tow the coxswain found some difficulty as the Luc's rudder was stuck hard over, causing her to veer away in the strong winds, although the problem was quickly overcome.  As the lifeboat was refuelled at Royal Quays Marina her crewe were requested by the skipper of fishing vessel Success III that he was towing another trawler, the Avocet, to the fish quay and requested that the lifeboat escort them in case of any difficulty manoevring onto the dock. The lifeboat monitored the situation until the pair were safely tied alongside and returned to station at 13:00. Relief Lifeboat: 17-45 Duke of Kent.
