Spes Melior II - PD 135

PD 135 seen here in North Shields Fishquay - circa 1930s/40s - restored photograph.

Would love it if someone could come up with her name?

PD 135 was the Spes Melior Steve, think i've a photo of her somewhere, will look it out.
    Hi Ally

Well spotted - I didn't think anyone would come up with an answer - couldn't find anything on the Net for her  :)

    Regards

    Steve E.
Dont think its the 30s that was taken Steve, i'd say its the 50s. Photo of Spes Melior uploaded in the 1950s section  :)
    Hi Ally

    Yes I've seen your photo @ http://www.trawlerpi...sa=view;id=4034

Looking at the buildings overlooking the Quay I would say the 1930s is about right - but with a lot of these photographs there is unfortunately no dates details - unlike todays digital with the information they hold  :)

I've just checked - the Pub at the top of the bank is the Rising Sun (corner of Beacon St and Tyne St) and it closed in 1940.

boats to modern for the thirties steve-they were only starting to think of big diesel drifters then-and the first of them that was built had a round galley roof like the old steam drifters-would go with ally on this one-50`s!
I'll meet you guys half way and agree 1940s  :)

From Donald Anderson's book Motor Boats and more besides -
PD 135 Spes Mellior II built by J & G Forbes Sandhaven in 1955

later in kilkeel N145-didn`t know was it the same one.
Hang on - this is becoming more complicated than ever  :)

According to Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland @ http://www.rcahms.go...inumlink=291565

Spes Melior II (note that this is the II boat and not the one highlighted by Ally) was built in 1953 and sank 1954 @ Peterhead Bay

If say a replacement was built in 1955 would it have taken the same name or would it not have been III.

Anyway - the photograph in question is not Spes Melior II

DF loop on the wheelhouse roof, makes it 1950's I reckon... pretty sure RDF was only introduced in the early 50's
