    Gleaner is an advanced survey vessel, which uses multibeam and sidescan sonar to collect bathymetry and seabed texture data and compile an accurate and detailed picture of the seabed.

    Technically a Hydrographic Vessel - she charts any changes to the river, in depth and width to spot any changes so that ships can have a clear and detailed picture - more so for visiting RN vessels I would assume.

    Some of the crew from Gleaner were working on the new Western Quays to measure its height and position using satellite positioning gear the other day. They are enjoying their stay in Newcastle  ???
